We took the slow train from Rome to Florence. With larger windows and multiple stops, it allowed us to see more of the countryside as we passed by. Once in Florence we rented an apartment. Best of all it had it's own washer/dryers...so the first day was laundry day! We planned to do quite a bit of walking in Florence. Our route was mapped out according to my shopping and eating scenario. Other than the Uffizi Gallery, we didn't purchased tickets to anything. For the small amount of time that we had here, we just wanted to soak it in. Our apartment was a 2 minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio bridge.

Galileo's Finger
As with a fine wine, it took some years for Galileo’s finger to age into something worth snapping off his skeletal hand. The finger was removed by one Anton Francesco Gori on March 12, 1737, 95 years after Galileo’s death. Passed around for a couple hundred years it finally came to rest in the Florence History of Science Museum.
