Another and our last train trip in Italy. We might, finally, have figured out the train system. We arrived here at 7 am and already the next two trains were sold out. So we wait until 10:15 am and I get some time to update my notes.
Let me tell of our arrival in Rome:
The plane from Dublin to Rome was uneventful. But when we landed there was a baggage handlers strike and the rest of the airport staff were also out in their support. The few left were struggling to get people through.
When we got off the train we had to walk through an overpass. At the end of the overpass were sliding glass doors.
Locked.
An entire plane load of people stood in the overpass while some administrative staff came from Bf Egypt to open the door.
Then, we stood in line at the passport station for 2 1/2 hrs while one little gray man behind a very big desk, checked everyone's passport.
We raced like a thousand person snail race through the passport line, alternating between hoping that our luggage would still be around by the time we got to the claim area and wondering if it was even being unloaded.
Thankfully the bags were there moving much more quickly around the carrousel than we were.
Good thing we are patient travelers. Well at least one of us is.... Because our transportation troubles were just beginning.
